Updates on Doncaster Sheffield Airport
In June 2022, the owners of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, the Peel Group, announced plans to close the Airport citing a lack of commercial viability.
Since that date, Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority and partners have been working tirelessly to find solutions to ensure there is a future for the Airport in Doncaster.
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones has announced that a lease to take over the former Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has been signed. The 125-year lease will help to ensure the future of the airport site with an ambition to return planes to the skies from the city.
The announcement follows over a year of detailed and complex negotiations with landowners of the Peel Group. The lease agreement is the first stage in the process of reopening the airport. The next stage is the appointment of an airport operator to manage the operational airport.
Visit Doncaster recognises the huge value the Airport brings to the area for our residents and visitors and as such we are awaiting the outcome of any future legal processes before removing references to Doncaster Sheffield Airport from our webpages.
