The inaugural Stakeholder Event for the recently formed South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership (SYLVEP) will take place this Thursday (18th July) at Magna Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham.
The breakfast event will see the launch of the new Destination Management Plan (DMP) for the region and will be hosted by local Bill and Doctors actor Chris Walker.
The South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership is a collaboration between the South Yorkshire Combined Mayoral Authority SYMCA, Sheffield City Council, City of Doncaster Council, Rotherham MBC, and Barnsley Council. Its purpose is to work collectively on shared priorities and targets to foster the growth of the local visitor economy.
Representatives from a wide range of businesses and organisations within the region’s visitor economy are expected to attend the event including accommodation providers, visitor attractions, venues, hospitality businesses, transport providers and major event organisers.
Speakers include Andrew Stokes OBE, England Director – Visit England, South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard, Anna Nelson (AccessAble) and Ross Calladine – Accessibility and Inclusion Lead at VisitEngland. Representatives from South Yorkshire Airport City (SYAC) will also be attending to provide the latest update on the reopening of the airport. The event closes with further opportunities for guests to network with like-minded individuals or businesses.
VisitEngland Director Andrew Stokes said:
“I am delighted to be in South Yorkshire and to see for myself the businesses and attractions at the heart of this community that make this region an outstanding visitor destination. It is also fantastic to see the partnership work underway with stakeholders across the region to grow the visitor economy and spread prosperity. We look forward to continuing to work with the South Yorkshire Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) as the programme goes from strength-to-strength, representing more of England with 34 LVEPs and building on the region’s success, ensuring it remains a top destination for both domestic and international visitors now and in the years ahead.”
Oliver Coppard, Mayor of South Yorkshire added:
“I’m South Yorkshire’s biggest champion. Of course, I believe that everyone should come and visit to share the great places we offer – whether that’s town and city centres where people can eat, shop, have fun and get together, our family and heritage attractions, or our fantastic geographical location. This Destination Management Plan will help us drive our place forward and I hope everyone will join me in continuing to shout about how amazing South Yorkshire truly is.”
The partnership is being led by representatives from Marketing Sheffield and gained Local Visitor Economy Partnership status in July last year. This event is the first of two stakeholder networking events to be held throughout the year.
