Upcoming eventsAn evening of beautiful piano music with Matthew Schellhorn.
Born locally in 1977 Schellhorn now regularly appears at major venues and festivals and has recorded numerous critically acclaimed albums.
At the heart of the programme is a new commission by Leeds-based composer Ben Gaunt, written to celebrate the unusual stone carvings of the Doncaster Sand House – a unique and fascinating but little-known part of Britain’s heritage which stood in town from the 1850s until the Second World War.
Music to set the scene includes two 1920s masterpieces – Gershwin’s jazz/classical crossover Rhapsody in Blue, and Ravel’s haunting and timeless Boléro.
