We Create: Mexborough calling for your musical memories for Your Doncaster Sounds exhibition

Following the success of Heritage Doncaster’s online Living Room Museum, a new online exhibition is being co-ordinated to celebrate Doncaster’s musical memories.

Organisers of the Your Doncaster Sounds online exhibition are asking for Doncaster residents to share their musical memories. These will be shown alongside a wide range of memorabilia, memories and interviews from a wide range of local musicians and venues. Anything from Brass bands to the Beatles, ukuleles to heavy metal will be celebrated. The exhibition will also include sneak peaks of Doncaster band Saxon’s musical history that will feature in the new Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.

Project organiser, Cara McAleese says: “We want to know what your best ever gig experience was, who your favourite Doncaster band is, what’s your favourite venue or – if you are a musician yourself – some stories from performances in the borough! We are asking people to share memories and photos as part of the exhibition, and are really interested in gathering those musical memories that make you who you are.”

To help inspire people to share their stories, Doncaster musicians have filmed their own musical memories which will be posted on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram right up until the exhibition opens in late November. You can also see the films on the website: https://wearedarts.org.uk/your-doncaster-sounds/

Share your musical memories by emailing YourMemories@doncaster.gov.uk

We Create: Mexborough is a partnership project between Cast, darts and Heritage Doncaster and is funded by Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group.
