Queen Elizabeth (and Paddington Bear) Could Win a BAFTA

The sketch from the Platinum Jubilee, when Queen Elizabeth had tea with Paddington, is competing for the "Memorable Moment Award" at the BAFTA Television Awards.

Queen Elizabeth is posthumously competing against Derry Girls and Stranger Things for a BAFTA. Yes, really.

During the Platinum Party at the Palace, a clip aired of Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) having tea with the Queen. This sketch is now nominated for the P&O Cruises Memorable Moment Award at the upcoming BAFTA Television Awards, and the vote is open to the public.

"The six moments we're sharing today capture what BAFTA stands for: creativity, innovation, and authenticity. The Memorable Moment Award spotlights the unforgettable scenes of the last year that truly resonated and inspired viewers at home, showcasing the impact of television," Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards & Content at BAFTA, said in a statement.

The award is sponsored by P&O Cruises, and the company's president Paul Ludlow said, "2022 was a wonderful year for TV with so many moments that brought the nation together. It was a hard task for the jurors to choose just six nominees, but we hope that the final shortlist reflects some of the most entertaining and memorable TV moments of the year."
