Lindum deliver world-class cinema and leisure centre in partnership with Doncaster Council and Savoy Cinemas
We’re thrilled to announce that Lindum have completed the works to deliver a world-class cinema and leisure experience in Doncaster town centre.
The building opened its doors for residents and visitors in mid-September. It has six screens, luxury recliner and rocker seating and the very latest in viewing technology.
Lindum worked closely with Doncaster Council and Savoy Cinemas on this project following procurement through our Medium Works Framework.
A real team effort from Lindum
In addition to putting up the main structure, Lindum’s roofing and cladding experts finished the exterior of the building, their specialist joinery team then manufactured the bespoke counter inside and finally their plant hire team provided the tools and equipment.
Lindum Exec Board director Edward Chambers said: "Whilst progress was unavoidably impacted by the outbreak, the team did very well progressing works safely with full compliance with all Covid guidance to get the job finished.
"It’s been a pleasure working with Doncaster Council through the Pagabo Framework, and with repeat end-user Savoy Cinemas on what will be a fantastic facility for Doncaster."
Benefits that will be felt locally
The development benefited from £635,000 of the Sheffield City Region Local Growth Funding (LGF) and will ultimately create more than 100 jobs and bring new business rate income into the borough.
Jonathan Parker, National Framework Manager at Pagabo added: “We’re delighted to see this high-quality facility ready for use after completion by the team at Lindum.
“This project represents one of many that Lindum are delivering after procurement through one of our construction frameworks, with works well underway to revamp a £1.2m craft centre for North Kesteven District Council and the recent handover of a new physio clinic for United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which was delivered as part of Grantham’s Covid-19 recovery effort.
“The impact to the local area is clear to see and so we’re pleased to have played our part in the initial phase of this brilliant scheme.”
Doncaster was the sixth site in Savoy’s expanding cinema chain, which currently provides a variety of cinema offerings to suit all audiences.
James Collington, Savoy Managing Director, said: “We are proud to be installing the latest technology throughout, including our Premium Vertex format in screen 1, comprising next-generation 4k laser projection and Dolby Atmos Immersive sound.”
Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “The new Savoy cinema complex looks fantastic and will be another great attraction in our blossoming Civic and Cultural Quarter.
“It will frame Sir Nigel Gresley Square and complement Cast performance venue, the civic office and the new homes that have already gone up. We also have Danum Gallery, Library and Museum and Doncaster University Technology College being built in this quarter with further plans in the pipeline for the Waterdale area.
“When you consider all the other schemes we are delivering in the town centre as part of our ambitious Urban Centre Masterplan, it’s clear to see how we are driving Doncaster forward at pace and helping to transform the whole borough for residents and communities.”
We’re delighted to have played our part in this scheme and look forward to seeing the benefits it will bring to the area as soon as the current period of restrictions are lifted, and the public can utilise this centre in a safe and secure manner.
